In our modern society young people are conditioned to expect everything to happen for them immediately – everything is available on demand. However, the things that truly develop strong and well-rounded people take time, and that’s the level of persistence and determination that should be imparted to our children.
Do you familiar with children story of Dash the Tortoise and the Hare? The slow but surely consistent Tortoise could beat the fast and smart Hare. The moral message in there is that in our life, in order to reach our dream or achievement, it’s not about how fast we can do something, but rather to how hard and consistent we put effort to achieve it.
“In order to reach our dream or achievement, it’s not about how fast we can do something, but rather to how hard and consistent we put effort to achieve it.”
The fable represents the quality our girls need. The determination and self-assurance are important that though they may not boast about their skill and they should not try to put others down with their own skills, but instead doggedly pursue their goals without being distracted by the others.
At Nonika, we believe teaching our daughters and the girls in our lives to believe that anything is possible for them. All of our clothes are designed with this in mind; to promote strength and independence even as they play and do what kids do.
Determination is a value that any young girl needs – it’s the core value that is going to keep them going when times get hard as they pursue their dreams. Our new pattern, ‘Parang’, represents this value.
The Parang pattern represents the continuous flow of water as it crashes onto the shore. The waves are the strongest; with time they will break down even the hardest rock on the coast. The pattern characterizes the core of Determination; all young girls who wear Nonika should understand that no matter how difficult the obstacle on the road to success or how distant that end goal may be, a ruthless pursuit of their dream will get them there eventually. If they push forward as persistently as the waves on the shore they will achieve everything and anything they set their minds to.
How do we raise strong independent girls? We allow them to explore their passions and never tell them they can’t do something. If a failure or obstacle puts them down, we build them back up. We encourage them to follow strong female role models. We praise them when they try their best, not just when they succeed. We allow them to exceed our expectations rather than setting the bar so high that they never feel as though they’ll reach it. We build them up any way we can. We allow them to be the waves represented in the Parang pattern, strong and flexible, with the determination to return again until they achieve their dreams.
I am strong and constantly persistent girl. I am Nonika and so are you. 🙂
